History

John Clarke was the son of Bernard Clarke of Chtwynd East. Born in 1888 he was appointed junior teacher at Ballarat East in 1904. He entered the Teachers' Training College in 1908, and gained the trained Teacher's Certificate in 1909. He enlisted while serving as Head Teacher at Five Mile Creek State School (No. 2709)

John Clarke enlisted during World War One, and was serving as a private when he died.

Legacy

The World War One service recognised on the Ballarat Avenue of Honour.
