History

Born January 1824 in Londonderry, Ireland.

Migrated to New South Wales with his parents, arrived 3 October 1838.

Returned to Ireland in 1846.

Migrated to Melbourne at age 24.

Editor and co-owner of The Star. (<29/09/1856>) Co-ownership ended 1 July 1858 after a civil court case.[1]

Chairman of directors of The Colonial Bank of Australasia. (<05/06/1857-10/09/1857>)

Candidate for West Moreton (Queensland); withdrew his nomination. (<04/06/1863>)

Died of complications of chronic bronchitis[4] on 28 April 1865 in his home on Adelaide Street, Brisbane.[5] He is buried in the Paddington Cemetery.

Legacy

As Chairman of the Ballarat East Municipal Council was a member of the group that incorporated the Ballarat Town Library.
