Our Mt Wallace correspondent writes – The late Mr Andrew Knight who passed away at the residence of his daughter, Mrs Albert Wohlers, last week, was a native of West Australia, being born at Perth in 1837, thus being in his 85th year. His father, the late Mr Jas Knight was reputed to be the first white man to set foot on land in W.A.; also his parents were the first couple to be married there. Mrs Wohlers still has their marriage certificate (marked No. 1) in her possession . At an early age, Mr Andrew Knight with his parents, came to Victoria, and took part in the Eureka Stockade disturbances at Ballarat. Later he acquired the Lal Lal pottery and brick works, and for many years lived at Lal Lal. He took a keen interest in mining matters, and had an active part in opening up the Lal Lal iron mines. He leaves a family of two sons and four daughters. The internment took place at Morrisons Cemetery.[1]
