Background
The Canberra Hotel was one of several hotels to trade from this building, or on this site. Others include the:

The Canberra Hotel was on the north east corner of Creswick Road and Macarthur Street.
History
The Canberra Hotel was a watering hole for both patrons and horses of the Ballaarat Tramway. The tram stop was out the front of the hotel.

The People
- In 1915 the license was transferred from Matthew Moralee to William Jane.[1]
- In April 1929 the licencee was Matthew Moralee[2]
- In January 1940 the licensee was Allison Margaret Davies.[3]
- Dick and Margaret Arthur. The retired to the United States.
- In 1942 the licencee was Patrick Joseph Leonard Moyían[4]
- In August 1947 the licence was transferred Norah Crunden and Margaret C. Lipmann. exécutrices of the will of Cecil G.Crunden, deceased, to Alan C. Hackwill.[5]
- <1970-1971> the licensee was C.E. Jobe[6]
- In 1972 J.C. Gordon was licensee[7]
Legacies
The building is still standing and is used as a bed and breakfast business.

- In October 1924 Two men, who had been found after hours in the Canberra Hotel without lawful excuse, were each fined £1. A charge against the licensee, William Jane, of having allowed the men to remain in the premises was withdrawn.[8]
- In September 1931 For having had the bar door open during prohibited hours, Matthew Moralee formerly licensee of the Canberra Hotel, was fined £6 on Tuesday. He was also lined £4 for having disposed of liquor after trading hours[9]
- In January 1940 Allison Margaret Davies, licensee of the Canberra Hotel, was fined £1 for permitting persons on the premises after hours. Several men were each fined £1.[10]
- In March 1942 Patrick Joseph Leonard Moyían licensee of the Canberra Hotel Macarthur st was fined £2 in the city court yesterday on a charge of unlawful disposal of liquor on March 4[11]
