Charles Hager

Charles Hager was the publican of the North Star Hotel (Lydiard Street), Ballarat, Victoria.

History

Hager was one of eight children of Rudolph Sophus Hager (c.1835-1909)[1] and Caroline Ratcliffe (c1842-1928).[2] Charles was born in Ballarat East in 1881.[3]

Hager's elder brother, Rudolph Thomas Hager, had been a grocer in Bridge Street and later publican of the Imperial Hotel in Humffray Street.

Hager was the licensee of the North Star Hotel from <1917-1937.[4][5]

On 26 October 1917, his forthcoming marriage to Florrie Newton was announced in the paper.[4]Florrie was the daughter of a publican, Michael Newton, of Newton's Hotel.[4][6]

In 1937 he sold his license to Eustace E. Andrew Merry[5]

He died at Ballarat in 1957.[7]
