"Margaret Maule, Cornubian Hotel, Creswick road. Inspector Kabat pointed out to the Bench that the applicant had been convicted of sly-grog selling. Mr Holmes for the applicant said that such was not the case; certain liquors bad been seized upon her premises and confiscated; that was not a criminal conviction. Inspector Kabat acknowledged the distinction to be drawn. The Police Magistrate concurred with Mr Holmes, and the Bench granted the license to the applicant."[1]
