- The flag at the premises of the Old Colonists’ Association in Lydiard street was yesterday hung at half-mast as a taken of respect to the memory of the late Mr Geo. Coppin, who was widely esteemed in Ballarat as well as in Melbourne. Mr Coppin was a member of the Ballarat Old Colonists’ Association, having joined in June, 1886—20 years ago—when the as sociation was only one year old. and he always took keen interest in tho asso ciation’s welfare. In the early days, when the old theatres of Ballarat were flourishing, Mr Coppin often appeared here with his companies and Mr E. H. L. Swifte, the assistant secretary of the association, as well as others of the old identities can re member his performing in one of his favorite comedies. "Milky White,” in the Theatre Royal in 1869. The Bal larat Old Colonists will send a wreath to Melbourne to be laid on the veteran’s grave.
