History

Hector Yates was born on 03 September 1897 at Sunny Corner, New South Wales. He died at Ballarat o 15 January 1977.[1]

Hec Yates was a lecturer of Geology and Mineralogy at the Ballarat School of Mines from 01 June 1920 to 02 September 1962.

Legacy

The display-lecture room at Lydiard Street which, in 1972, was the Principal’s office and council room, was called the Yates Geological Centre on his retirement. The bronze plaque, in 1972 in the Mt Helen department refers to this room. Mr Yates lectured in mathematics as well as geology and is an able student of French.[2]
