Background
James Dudley Tassell was born at Gisborne, Victoria[1] in 1887. His father was Henry Tassell and his mother was Susan Collins.[2]
An accountant before enlisting for service during World War One at Ballarat, he was a member of the No 2 Squadron Royal Flying Corps.[3] He is listed on the Honour Board of the Old Colonists' Club and the Austral Works Honour Roll.
In 1919 James Tassell was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in recognition of distinguished services rendered during the war.[4]
