Joseph Edwin Sang was a Chinese doctor and herbalist.[1]

History

Sang was born about 1877, the son of Lo Kwos Sang and Caroline Ramsay.[2]

He was situated at 6 Peel Street, Ballarat in 1906.[1] He also visited other towns in the district including Colac[3], Hamilton, Geelong[4], and even as far as Naracoorte[5]:

In march 1914 the Willaura Farmer reported:

HERBALIST'S VISIT. By advertisement in another column it is announced that Mr. J. E. Sang, the well-known herbalist of 6 Peel-street, Ballarat, will visit Willaura on Sunday next, March 29th, and may be consulted at the Willaura Hotel. Mr. Sang's hours of consultation will be from eleven o'clock in the morning to five o'clock in the afternoon.[6]

In June 1930, the Horsham Times reported:

HERBALIST'S VISIT. Mr. J. E. Sang, Chinese herbalist, of Ballarat, will visit the Exchange Hotel Horsham, next Wednesday and Thursday and maybe consulted from 9.30 a.m.to 5 p.m.[7]

Sang also owned racehorses, including Wheel of Fortune (1910)[8], madam Donald (1912), and Late Thought (1910-1915).[9][10]

Sang died in Ballarat in 1951, aged 74.[2]

SANG.—On April 29, at his residence, 31 Peel street, Ballarat, Joseph Edwin, beloved husband of Eileen Sang, loved father of Joseph and Paul (deceased), aged 74 years. Requiescat in pace.[11]
