Jane M. Stallard was a publican in Ballarat, Victoria.

History

She was born Jane Mason Miller on 8 November 1856, the daughter of William Miller and Eliza Gracey. She married Joseph Stallard in Blackwood, Victoria in 1878.[1] They had several children including:

  • William John Charles Stallard (born 1880, in Collingwood, Victoria)[2]
  • Eliza Jane Stallard (born 1881 in Ballarat)[3] She married Charles Middleton in 1907. [4]
  • Florence Catherine May Stollard (born 1888 in Ballarat East)[5]
  • Harold Mason Stallard (born 1890) served with the A.I.F. in World War One.
  • Stanley Houston Stallard (born 1892) served with the A.I.F. in World War One.

Jane became the publican of the Plough and Harrow Hotel, Mair Street, in 1903 after her husband, Joseph Stallard, died after falling down the hotel stairs.

By 1909 Jane Stallard had left Ballarat, and was living with her daughter Florence in Carlton.[6]

She died on 22 July 1944 and is buried in the Fawkner Cemetery:

STALLARD. –On July 22, at 24 Ford street, Brunswick, Jane Mason Stallard, beloved wife of the late Joseph, and loving mother of William, Eliza (Mrs. Middleton), Florence, Harold, and Stanley, aged 87 years.[7]
