History

Lewis James Stewart was born at Ballarat on 31 December 1894. His father was David McLellan Stewart. He was captured by the Germans at Maricourt Wood, and became a prisoner of war, eventually interned at Gefangenenlager Limburg. At the conclusion of the war he was released and arrived in England on 06 December 1918. On 09 January 1919 he was granted leave.

Legacy

The World War One service of Lewis Steart is recognised on the Ballarat Avenue of Honour.
