History

Thomas C. Bodycomb was christened 25 August 1829 in Llansamlet (Swansea, Wales), his parents were Thomas Bodycomb and Anne nee Thomas.

On Tuesday evening the workmen of the Phoenix Foundry, to the number of about 30, sat down to a complimentary dinner at the Clarendon Hotel, which they gave to Mr Thomas Bodycombe, who has been for the last four years in the employment of Mr Carter, as overseer of the ironmoulders, and now is about to leave that gentleman's service. Mr Charles Clay warmly eulogised Mr Bodycombe, and in the name of the moulders presented that gentleman with a parchment address signed by the workmen, and a box of mathematical instruments, which bore the following inscription: "Presented to Mr Thomas Bodycombe by the ironmoulders of the Phoenix Foundry as a token of respect and esteem towards him for the time he was manager of the foundry. Ballarat, 4th March, 1861." Mr Bodycombe, in a neat speech, returned thanks, and after mutual exchanges of friendship between the employers and the employees the company separated.[1]

Thomas Bodycomb was the head patternmaker at the Phoenix Foundry in 1884.

Thomas C. Bodycomb died 6 April 1919 in his Home "Rurua" at 30 Doveton Street, Ballarat. He is buried in the Ballaarat Old Cemetery - Area F1, Section 11, Row 2, Grave 21.
