Background

History

On 22 March 1915, the hotel was included on a list of hotels to be deprived of their licenses. This list was complied by the Licenses Reduction Board in Melbourne. The Ballarat West licensing district hearings on this list were to be held on 27 April.[1]

Site

The Town Hall Hotel was on the west side of Armstrong Street South,.[2] It was demolished to build the Central Square shopping centre. It is shown in a Victoria Museum photo c.1890.

Innovations

The hotel was the departure and arrival point for Cobb and Co's Telegraph Line of coaches to Smythesdale and Rokewood, with four services per day.[3]
