William Bailey

History

English-born William Bailey was one of the group who purchased the Egerton Mine from the Learmonth family in 1873 – after having been employed by the Learmonths as the mine manager. Bailey was made a Life Governor of the Ballarat School of Mines in 1874. He was a shareholder in the Seven Hills Estate Co. in 1875. He was Chairman of the Prince of Wales and Bonshaw Co. in 1887.[1]
