Albert E. Freestone

History

Albert E. Freestone was born at Little Bendigo, was the son of Henry Freestone and Mary Freestone. He was educated at Queen Street State School before working as a miner and labourer.

At the time of Albert Freestone's enlistment on 08 September 1914 into World War One he was 25 years old and living in Drummond Street, Ballarat. He sailed toEgypt then Gallipoli, and was wounded in action on 01 May1914.. He was reported missing on27 August during the fierce fighting at Hill 60. He was confirmed dead on 26-28 August. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Australian Memorial at Lone Pine.

Legacy

World War One service recognised with tree 242 on the Ballarat Avenue of Honour.
