Alice Ross-King

History

Alice Ross-King was born in Ballarat on 05 August 1887. She was an army nurse with the 1st Australian General Hospital in Egypt. She married Sydney Appleford in Australia after meeting him on her return trip to Australia, and the couple settled at Lang Lang.

Legacy

Major Alice Ross-King is Australia's most highly decorated woman to serve in either world war. She was awarded a Military Military Medal for bravery during a bombing raid in 1917, and received the Florence Nightingale medal in 1949.
