The American Hotel was a hotel in Creswick, Victoria, <1855-2016>.

Background

History

Creswick and Ballarat Royal Mail Line coaches ran a daily service from the hotel to Bath's Hotel and the George Hotel in Ballarat.[1]

The hotel was described in the license application of June 1864:

TO the Bench of Magistrates, Creswick.- I, THOMAS WILLIAM ANTHONY, Publican, now residing at Albert street, in the town of Creswick, do hereby give notice that it is my intention to apply to the Justices sitting at the Court of Petty Sessions, to be holden at Creswick, on the 1st day of July, 1864, for a certificate authorising the issue of a Publican's License for a house situated at Albert street, Creswick, containing twenty-four bed rooms and eight sitting-rooms, in my own occupation and possession, and now licensed under the sign of the American Hotel. 15th day of June, 1864. THOS. W. ANTHONY.[2]

  • The first meeting of the Creswick Havilah Lodge too place at the American Hotel on 17 April 1859.[6]
