The American Saw Mill operated from premises on Sturt Street, Ballarat in 1858.


Background

The American Saw Mill was established by Edwards and Solomon in August 1856.[1]

History

THE AMERICAN SAW MILL COMPANY
‘ARE NOW SELLING TIMBER,
AT THEIR YARD, STURT STREET, BALLARAT,
Quartering, Flooring-boards, and Weatherboards, 10s. per hundred feet.
Battens, 2 to the foot, 10s dl.
Five per Cent. Allowed to the Trade.'

D. B. Selman operated the American Saw Mills from premises on Sturt Street, Ballarat in 1858.[3]

Site

Possibly this sawmill resulted in the name 'Yankee Flat' or 'Yankee Flat Road'.[4]
