Arthur Hobba

History

Arthur Henry Hobba (no 133) was 19 years old and worked as a labourer, when he enlisted in the Australian Imperial Forces on the 13th March 1916, assigned to the 39th Battalion AIF. He embarked for active serve abroad on 27th May 1916, he proceeded to France via Southampton on 23rd November, where transferred to the 38th Battalion.

Sergeant Arthur Henry Hobba, took charge of a party operating on the north bank of the SOMME an dforced the enemy to evacuate two machine gun posts. While overseas he married Miss Edith Lillian Middlewick on the 28th June 1919.

He returned to Australia per Megantie, 20th February 1920 and was discharged from the AIF at Melbourne, medically unfit. He was awarded the 1914/15 Star, the Bristish War medal and the Victory Medal.

Family

Father: James Hobba, miner of 511 Ripon Street, Ballarat.

Wife: Nee Edithh Lillian Middlewick, aged 18 when married Arthur at Austell on the 28th June 1919.
