Obituary

Mr Athol L. Stark, of Ballarat, who served with the Australians in the capture of German New Guinea, and whose health has been failing, since his return home, died at the Heidelberg military hospital on Friday. He was a brother of Mr W. A. Stark, of Ballarat East. 'The funeral took place on Saturday and was largely attended by returned comrades and representative citizens. The remains of the deceased were encased in a polished casket, draped with the Union Jack, and on the arrival of the Melbourne train, the cortege proceeded to the Ballarat New Cemetery, where the remains were interred in the family grave. The coffin, bearers were Sergeant B. Bunting, Privates Bromley, Dean, Raine, Matherson, and M'Williams. The pall bearers were Lieut. Dalton, Sgt. Donaldson, Cpl Brittain, Dvr Dean, Privates Davidson, Kennedy, Thomas and Daw and Messrs E Curtis (secretary), M. Bell, G- Bolster and A. Robinson (representing the Master Grocers), A. R. Hager and J. M'Kay (represent in the Licensed Grocers Association), H. Carnell '(representing G. Farmer and Co), W. Holman (secretary), and W. T. Gunn (representing Victoria Bowling club), A W. Williams, C. Thiessen, J. Hawker, and A. Halliday (representing the employes of Mr W A. Stark), Cr W. D. Hill, Messrs J.F. Austin, C. Carthew, W. Morrow, W. Rees, H. Maxwell, E. White and A. White. The Rev. C. A. Cole, of All Saints', officiated at the grave, and the funeral Arrangements were in charge of Mr G. Lunbrook and W.J. Apps and Son (in conjunction)[1]
