Background

History

The Avoca Deep Lead Gold Mining Company has commenced sinking the shaft, and is in treaty with Carter and Co., Phoenix Foundry, Ballarat, for the supply and erection of the entire plant of machinery required.[1]
MINING INTELLIGENCE.
The (Clunes) Avoca Deep Lead G. M. Company bottomed on a slate reef at 80 feet, and then sank through the reef to the depth of 110 feet. The shaft has been timbered up, and the machinery is in course of erection.[2]
