| 'BALLARAT, Thursday.-Closely following upon the series of special articles which appeared in "The Argus," pointing out the scope there was for an extension of Ballarat enterprise, the Progress Association has taken action with a view to having practical proposals considered. As was mentioned in "The Argus" to-day, one of the suggestions made to the association by Mr. F. J. Martell, director of the School of Mines, was that a furniture-making factory should be established here. The suggestion has met with considerable favour. A number of well-known business men have been approached, and they all approve of the idea, and one of them offered to invest largely in the factory if a business proposition was submitted. Information as to what capital is likely to be required to establish a factory is to be secured, and the committee appointed to deal with the matter will then be in a position to take further action.'
