The Black Horse Brewery was a brewery in Ballarat, Victoria.

Background

Established by George Lee in 1862, it traded as Lee and Hull. James Hull was listed as a brewer with a brewery in Ripon Street in the 1866 Ballarat Burgess Roll.[1]

History

Francis Drew became a partner in 1894, but he died the following year. From late in 1896, J. J. Trait leased the brewery from George Lee and became known as the XXX Brewery. Jessie Evans acquired the premises in 1897 but did not run a business there.[1]

Site

The Black Horse Brewery was operating on Ascot Street, Ballarat in 1887. Its proprietor was George Thomas Lee.[2]


The Black Horse Brewery was situated at 7 Ripon Street.[1]
