History

For Sale.
‘A FULL SHARE in the amalgamated claims, Nos. 24 and 25, Black Lead. Apply at the claim, No. 25.‘ [1]

In May 1857 the Age newspaper reported:

Black Lead. — There are only a few claims working on the ground, and the general aspect of affairs is dull. The neighborhood still contains a considerable population however, and if the ground should be proved farther a head the lead might turn out to be more remunerative than hitherto. The difficulties have been very great on this ling, and it is no wonder that newer and easier workings should draw off tho miners from Black Lead.[2]
