A postal mining village in the parish of Smythesdale, it is situated on the main Ballarat Road and 2 miles east from Scarsdale, with which place there is no regular communication, although there are good macadamised roads.
The best means of communication with Melbourne 109 miles is to Ballarat 14 miles by coach and thence by rail.
The hotels are: The Washington and Crew Club. The district is under the control of the Borwns and Scardsale Borough Council and is flat and slightly undulating.
The population of the neighbourhood is about 500.[1]


A mining township near Smythesdale, on the Yarrowee creek, 103 miles NW of Melbourne, about 13 miles from Ballarat, and about one mile from Scarsdale, the nearest railway station. Population of the town and vicinty about 90. The workings are principally alluvial. [2]
