C. A. Welch was a watchmaker operating from premises at 32 Sturt Street, Ballarat in 1887.[1] Welch had at least one son who became a jeweller and watchmaker; his son, C. H. Welch was working at Traralgon. [2]
History
C. A. Welch was a prominent watchmaker and jeweller in Ballarat during the 1880s. He began working at T. Wills & Co. Manufacturing Jewellers some time in the 1870s. He married and moved to Ballarat in 1875, and started his own business soon afterward. [3]

- . DEATH OF MR C. A. WELCH. We regret to chronicle the death Mr C. A. Welch, father of Mr C. H. Welch, jeweller, of Trarnlgon, which took place on Tuesday morning. For some time the deceased hnad been seriously, and that his death was not unexpected by relatively and friends. Deceased, who was 78 years of age, ... He was a member of the Old Colonists Association, and came to Australia in 1853. For many years he resided at Ballarat, and could relate quite a number of experiences associated with the gold diggings in the early days. From Ballarat, deceased went to Bendigo, and about 10 years ago came to live at Traralgon. Up to the time when he was laid aside by illness, the late Mr Welch occupied the position of Tyler to the Argylie Lodge of Masons, and was held in high esteem by that body. ... [4]

C.A. Welch made the Ballarat Old Identities medallions.
