History
The Central Plateau No. 2 was located on was located on the north west corner of Walker Street, Sebastopol and Grant Street. It was the last working quartz mine in Ballarat South closing in 1918 due to small gold returns and so many miners leaving the company to serve with the AIF during World War 1. The closure of this mine resulted in all the great mines on the Sebastopol plateau to fill with water.[1]
Site
North West corner of Walker Street, Sebastopol and Grant Street, Sebastopol (vacant land in 2017).[2] It was opposite Downer's Sauce Factory.
