Charles Campbell
History
Charles Campbell was the eldest son of Mrs Campbell of 106 Wendouree Parade, Ballarat. He was born on 04 September 1892, and attended Ballarat High School. In 1909 Charles was a junior teacher at Brown Hill and at Macarthur Street, Ballarat. From 1911 to 1915 he was head teacher at Buxton, and assistant at Pleasant Street, Ballarat in 1916. He was "a very good teacher, energetic and capable."
On 29 September 1916 Charles Campbell enlisted for service during World War One. He embarked with the 8th reinforcements to the 57th Battalion on the transport Medic on 16 December 1916. He contracted Meningitis on teh voyage and was in hospital in England until May 1917. After a period of training in England her went to France and joined hi unit on 7 November 1917. He was killed in action four months later.[1]
