Charles J.P. Lydiard

History

Charles John Pitfield was the son of William Lydiard and Mary Sturt, and originated from Surray, England. Charles Lydiard sailed to Australia and was 21 years old when he arived in Ballarat on 20 September 1851, and commanded the Native Police until their departure in December 1851. Lydiard then became an Inspector of Police.[1]

He later served at Belfast (Port Fairy), then in 1860 was appointed Superintendant of Police at Bathurst, New South Wales, a post he held for 23 years.[2]

Charled Lydiard married Charlotte Belin from Guildford, Surry, England. [3]
