Charles Way
History
Legacy
On June 29, 1917, the youngest student at Lal Lal Primary School, Sheila Maher, planted a tree the Lal Lal Anzac Memorial Park to commemorate the passing of former student Charles Way who died from wounds received while fighting in France during World War One. Exactly 100 years later Billy Murley and Liam Hamilton, the two youngest current students at Lal Lal Primary School, planted a Turkish Oak at the memorial to mark the milestone. Andrew Way, the great nephew of Charles Way, passed the spade to Liam Hamilton and Billie Murley and helped them bed the sapling in. “One hundred years later, to the day, we wish to pay our respects to all members of our community who have served to support us and recognised the role that children and our school plays in our history and community,” said Lal Lal Primary School principal Brett Dyson.[1]
