Clement W. McCallum
Clement W. McCallum was a cabinet maker, working in the Ballarat area before World War One.[1]
History
Born in Ballarat West on 28 August 1895, Clement McCallum attended Mount Pleasant Primary School, and after graduating from school, Clem was apprenticed as a cabinet maker to W. J. Ellingsen, of Sturt Street, Ballarat. He successfully completed his four years indenture and became a full employee of the firm. [2]
Clem was one of the earliest enlistments from Ballarat, serving with the 8th Battalion. At dawn on Sunday 25 April 1915, Clem and his brother, Austin McCallum, saw action at ANZAC Cove. On 11 August 1918, Clem was killed in action during the Battle of Amiens. [3] At the end of World War One Clement McCallum held the rank of Private.
