History

David Harold Stevenson served with the 21st Battalion during World War One. He was a warper[1] at the Ballarat Woollen Mills Avenue of Honour.

On 16 September 1916 David Stevenson proceeded to Ypres, France. He was wounded in action on 12 May 1917 with a gunshot wound to the face. He was wounded in action again on 01 October 1917 with a gunshot wound to the ankle.[2]

On 01 March 1918 D.H.Stevenon court martialed was sentenced to 60 days detention for being Absent Without Leave.[3]

A tree was planted in the Ballarat Woollen Mills Avenue of Honour by W.J. Treadwell[4] in August 1918.[5]

Legacy

The World War One service of David Sullivan is recognised on the Ballarat Avenue of Honour and the Ballarat Woollen Mills Avenue of Honour.

PRIVATE DAVE STEVENSON. Mrs T.Rees of West Brunswick, formally of Darling street, Ballarat, has been advised that her brother Pte Dave Stevenson, has been admitted to the 1st Southern General hospital Birmingham England, suffering from a severe gunshot wound in the head. Pte Stevenson left with the 21st Battalion. Prior to enlisting he worked at the Sunnyside Woollen Mills.[6]
