COUNTRY NEWS / BALLARAT
A safe robbery was reported to the police on Monday by Messrs. Davies and Franklin of Sturt-street, bicycle agents and manufacturers. Mr. M. Franklin was engaged in the office up till 11 o’clock on Sunday night, and, although he did not take particular notice of the safe, he thinks that it was in its accustomed place. When the shop was opened on Monday morning, however, the safe door was found to be unlocked, and £8 in money missing.[1]


SERIOUS CHARGES
CYCLE MANUFACTURER CONVICTED
MELBOURNE. December 6.
In the Supreme Court at Ballarat on Saturday before Mr. Justice Cussen, the trial of Mortimer Franklin, managing director of Davies and Franklin Motor and Cycle Manufacturing Co. Limited, and Kathleen Norman was concluded. The charge against Franklin was that of having, on October 5, assaulted a girl under the age of 16 years. Norman was charged with having aided and abetted Franklin. Both of the accused were found guilty, and were each sentenced to six months’ imprisonment.[2]
