Doug Wright was born in Ballarat in 1944. Between 1963 - 1964 he studied at Ballarat School of Mines Art School and in 1965 - 1966 at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, resulting in a Diploma of Art (Fine Art Painting). From 1974 he has had over 20 solo exhibitions and in 1993 a survey exhibition, which travelled Victorian Regional Galleries.

On the occasion of the Ballarat School of Mines centenary Doug Wright exhibited at a past students'Art Exhibition at the new Mt Helen Campus.[1]

Doug Wright studied at the Ballarat Technical Art School, a division of the Ballarat School of Mines, from 1963 to 1964.
