In 1905 a group from the Ballarat School of Mines visited. They recorded: ... We tramped about three miles underground and saw the several processed of alluvial mining from the driving in the reef, drainage of wash by bores to the panelling out of the wash and its conveyance to the surface per electric railway and vertical shaft. The electric railway underground is found an efficient and cheap method of haulage, though it appears to be difficult to obtain good insulation for the conductor. The arrangement is very similar to the tram system in Ballarat. The motor used is capable of taking a load of 50 tons from the workings to the shaft if desired, a distance of about 5,000 feet. [1]
