Notes

Miss E. Ison Baker, who, for some; years, has had charge of the Ballarat Observatory, has relinquished her position, owing to her approaching marriage, and Mr Baracchi, the Government Astronomer, has appointed as her successor her niece. Miss Effie Baker, who has filled the position for some time. Miss Baker retires from her post with the best wishes of all. Her duties have been carried out in a manner that displayed a high standard of knowledge, while her obliging and amiable disposition, made her a favorite with all with whom she came into contact.[3]
Miss Effie Baker, of Black Rock, her speciality being the production of dolls' houses: and wonderful suites of dolls' furniture. Miss Baker's artistic toys are constructed after true-to-life mod-ern architectural designs, and are complete in every detail, from handsome fret-wrought over-mantels to the panelling of the front door. Her little suites are of modern 'mission' design, and are solid and firm, as well as artistic in appearance. Toorak and Kew are stocking their nurseries with these Australian productions, and orders have already been shipped to America. Miss Baker is also known among Melbourne artistic circles for her dainty booklets of Australian wild flowers, for which there is a regular demand.[4]
