Background

The Enfield clay pits, south-west of Ballarat, provided a creamy buff coloured stoneware clay that was utilised by many regional potters. Mixed with the ancient volcanic sand from the shores of Lake Burrumbeet it produced speckled, toasted pots typical of the 1960s and 70s and was often an integral element in the ceramics produced locally during that period.
