History

Eric Brind was a son of Caroline Anne Brind. He was born at Ballarat in 1994, and was educated at Ballarat College. Eric F. Brind was a member of the firm H. Brind and Co. Ltd, distillers and maltsters. Brind was a member of the 70th Infantry Rifle Club, and active member of the Wendouree Rowing CLub, a member of the Victoria eight at Sydney in 1911, a public vocalist, and a member of the Ballarat Liedertafel.[1]

Brind was a 2nd Lieutenant with the 7th A.I.R. in 1911, Lieutenant and Adjutant with the 70th Infantry in 1913, Captain and Adjutant with the 23rd battalion, 3rd AIF on Active Duty in France in 1916.[2]

On 13 January 1918 the flags on the City and Town Halls were flown at half-mast for six Ballarat soldiers confirmed that week. Four were from the 23rd Battalion – Eric T. Brind (killed 28 July 1916), Robt. L. Tremain (killed 26 August 1916), Charlie Ladner (killed 20 March 1917) and Tom Jones.[3]

Legacy

World War One service recognised on the Ballarat Avenue of Honour.
