Eustace E. Andrew Merry was a publican in Ballarat, Victoria, <1937>
History
Merry took over the license of the North Star Hotel (Lydiard Street) from Charles Hager in 1937.[1]
In March 1937 two men were charged with fraud after trying to pass a fake cheque for £350 with Merry's name and signature.
Two men, George Bell, of Albert Park, Insurance agent, and Dick Munro, of Carlton, a sailor, appeared in the City Court on charges of forgery, uttering and conspiracy. It was alleged the signatures of leading insurance officials had been forged in attempts to defraud city banks.[2]
