Frederick Giffen Holst was born in Ballarat, the son of stockbroker Frederick Holst. His sister was Mavis Annie Holst (later Watson)[1]
Legacy
Frederick G. Holst (2925) enlisted during World War One on 02 July 1915. At that time he was a 20 year old electrical engineer. He was originally part of the 29th reinforcements of the 8th Battalion, but was transferred to the 60th Battalion on 24 February 1916. His service is recognised with a tree planted in the Sebastopol Avenue of Honour.[2]
His parents signed the following letter on 30 June 1916:
- The bearer F.W. Holst has his parents consent to enlist.
- F.W. Holst
- M. Holst.
- I certify that the above signatures are correct.
- F.G. Holst[3]
F.G. Holst died of wounds in France while a prisoner of the Germans on 19 July 1916.[4]
