George Fleischer
History
George Fleischer was born at Butzbach, Darmstadt, Germany on 15 May 1831. He sailed to Australia on the Undine leaving the port of Hamburg on 12 September 1854, and arriving at the Port of Melbourne on 15 January 1855.
He was a general blacksmith and wheelwright at Yandoit in <1884-1898> with a shop in Camp Street, Yandoit. His establishment was also a general store and timber yard and was run by his brothers. George Fleischer's 1898 letterhead states horses carefully shod.
George Fleischer was naturalised on 17 February 1862. he died on 01 June 1913 at Yandoit and is buried in the Franklinford Cemetery.
Family
He married Margaretha Hauser on 04 February 1860 at the Congregational Parsonage, Castlemaine. The couple had seven children.
Obituary
- FLEISCHER.— On the 1st June, at his residence, Butzbach, Yandoit, George Fleischer, the beloved husband of Margaret Fleischer, and father of George, Heinrich P., Rev. William Fleischer, Mrs. G. Morrison, Mrs. J. Spencer, Mrs. A. Hird, and Mrs. W. Garratt, aged 82 years.[1]
- The Rev. E. C. W. Fleischer (Hopetoun) has suffered a severe bereavement by the death of his father, Mr. George Fleischer, which took place at Yandoit. The deceased gentleman had reached the age of 82 years.[2]
- Mr. George Fleischer, the well-known blacksmith, of Yandoit, died during the week. He was in business in Castlemaine in 1856, and shortly after left for Yandoit. He was married in 1860, and has lived here ever since. He acquired a fair amount of landed property.[3]
