George Taylor (?-1960)
History
George Taylor was the son of Gilbert and Lucy Taylor of 7 Queen Street Ballarat. He enlisted on 20 August 1914. He was a member of the 8th battalion and took part in the landing and evacuation at Gallipol. While recovering from nfluenza on Lemnos Island her wrote to his parents mentioning he was near Bert Edmondstone, 'one of the best Ballarat Imps Players. (Ballarat Imperial Football Club. [1]
By September 1916 George Taylor was promoted to Sergeant and was fighting at Gordon Dump, near Ypres, France. He was in charge of a loading party under heavy and incessant shellfire. He 'kept his men under control and took charge of the transport wagons' maintaining the supply of materials. George Taylor was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) in April 1918.[2]
Marrying Ivy Murial Waight in 1919, George Taylor died in 1960 and is buried in the Ballarat New Cemetery.[3]
