H.A. Schmeding

History

Harry Anthony Schmeding was the licensee of the Dutch Harry Hotel.

At the last general meeting of the Ballarat German Association, held at the Dutch, Harry, hotel, the foll lowing members were elected as officers for the ensuing six or twelve months : Mr Carl Schiever as president, Mr Anton Velten: as vice-president, Mr H. Schmeding as treasurer and librarian, Mr Rathnow as secretary; and as committeemen, Messrs Fr. Muller Adam Klein, J, Solbau, and Riegelhuth. The funds .f the society are in a sound and prosperous state, notwithstanding the heavy outlay for sick allowance incurred during last year, and amount, in addition to the surplus left from the last quarter, to £287 Is 9d. Besides this capital, the society possess for the use of their members a library, with a neatly fitted up reading-room attached, which contains over 1300 volumes of the newest and-best German and, English standard works, and is the public in general every day except Sundays free of charge.

The funeral to move from his late residence, the Dutch Harry Hotel, Main road, this Day (17th instant), at Four o'clock precisely. JOHN LEE, Undertaker, Main road, near Barkly street.
