History

Henry Thomas Wardle was a timber merchant from Ballarat who collected wood samples from around the world and donated them to the Ballarat School of Mines Museum. It was later transferred to the Victorian School of Forestry (now the Department of Forest and Ecosystem Science, University of Melbourne). The estimated size of the collection is between 1,200-1,500 specimens. Most specimens measure approximately 20 x15 x2 cm. Each wood sample (specimen) is marked with genus and common name. [1]
