History

Henry Jesse Trimmer Brown was born at Ballarat. He enlisted into the A.I.F. during World War One on 17 August 1914 at the age of 19. His father, William James Brown, or 20 Havelock St, Ballarat,was listed and Henry Brown's next of kin. Sergeant Henry Brown (526) was appointed to the 7th Battalion.[1]

Brown embarked to join the Gallipoli campaign from Alexandria on 05 April 1915. He was promoted on the Gallipoli Peninsular to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant on 28 April 1915. On 01 May 1915 he was wounded in the left foot and right forearm, resulting in a Board of Enquiry.[2]

Brown was to be Lieutenant on 09 August 1916, but he was killed in Action at Pozieres, France on 25 July 1916. He was buried alongside trenches where he was killed by the 17th Battalion.[3]

Legacy

World War One service recognised on the Ballarat Avenue of Honour.[4]

Henry J.T. Brown has a memorial in the Ballaarat Old Cemetery, which gives his date of death as 1917 instead of 1916.[5]
