Howard G. Bennett

History
Howard Gordon Bennett was born in Ballarat, Victoria, raised as a Methodist, and studied at the Ballarat Junior Technical School and the Ballarat School of Mines. He trained to be a turner and fitter. During World War One he enlisted with the Australian Flying Corps on the 27 May 1918, and served with the Australian Flying Corps as a 2nd Air Mechanic. He listed his next of kin as a Father, R. Bennett, 108 Cowper Street, Footscray, Victoria. It is noted that he previously served as part of the 71st Infantry. His unit enbarked from Melbourne onboard the SS Zealandic on 5 October 1918, and returned to Australia on the 6 May 1919.[1]
Legacy
The World War One service of Howard Bennett is recognised on the Ballarat Avenue of Honour.
Howard G. Bennett's name is listed in the Ballarat School of Mines Honor Roll.[2], and the Ballarat Junior Technical School Honour Board.
