A concert to provide Christmas comforts for the troops took place in the Public Hall on Friday evening last: The hall was packed too the doors. The Very Rev. Father Howell presided and and explained the object of the concert, and expressed pleasure at seeing such a large gathering, In regard to the brave lads who had gone from Bowenvale to take their place in the firing line they were all looking forward to seeing them safely return, but only last week newsl had come through that Privates E. W Tangey and Hunter Thompson had been killed in action. He could not pass by without offering a word of deepest sympathy to the parents and relatives of those two brave lads, and with those whose sons had been wounded he sympathized also. The programme was a very lengthy one, and it was one of the finest that has been put before the public for some time.; The items were as follows:Chorus, Eight Little Girls; song, Mr. A. Du Bourg; song, Doreen and FrankBloodsworth; -recitation, Miss Doris Col lings; song. young ladies; song, Miss Thomas; recitation, Miss Isa Ballantine; dialogue, Alfred Edward Collings." Mr.Les. Matthews and Miss Lizzie Lizzie Grail; dialogue. "Turn Him Out," five young men and two ladies; song and chorus, Miss Thomas and girls; recitation, Miss Isa Ballantine; song (comic); Mr. R. Hornsby; song, young ladies' choir; recitation, Miss Thomas; song; Mr. C. Penrose; song, girls; song. Mr.-A. Du Bourg; the National. Anthem. Mr. N. Collings and Mr. W. Reeves had charge of the doors, and carried out the duties entrusted to them in an efficient manner, The committee made a good canvass in Bowenvale, Leviathan Reef, and Timor =West and many valuable articles were given by friends. These were put up by auction after the concert, Mr. H. Hornsby acting as auctioneer. The results of the concert and sale of articles will appear in a later issue. [2]
