J. Gordon Harrop
James Gordon Harrop served with the AIF during World War One.
History
Gordon Harrop was one of three brothers from Ballarat who enlisted.
From the Ballarat Star, 6 June 1917:
PRIVATE R. M. HARROP. Mrs. H Harrop, of Elm Road, off Peel street, Ballarat East, has been advised that her son, Private R. M. Harrop, has been wounded in France. Private Harrop who is 24 years of age, sailed from Austral1a on 7th May, 1915, with the 23rd. Battalion, and went through part of the Gallipoli campaign, being transferred afterwards to France. The Harrop family is nobly doing its share in the great war. Another son, Private C. H. Harrop, was killed at Pozieres in July last year. He was recommended for a Distinguished Conduct Medal on account of services rendered in a battle fought just before the engagement in which he was killed. A third son son, James Gordon Harrop, is on active service in Prance, and though only 20 years of age holds the post of instructor in machine gun training.[1]
