J. Kelsall

John Kelsall was a hide and wool merchant operating from premises on the corner of Lydiard Street and Mair Street, Ballarat in 1887, according to The Australasian Federal Directory.[1] In 2015 the building was used by Fernwood as a Gym.
History
John Kelsall arrived in Victoria in 1949, settling at Buninyong around 1854. He was the manager of the boiling down works at Learmonth's Buninyong station. He started a soap and candle manufacturing business on his own account in 1867, on the same site at the Learmonths.[2]
John Kelsall’s business grew to a large 47 Mair Street based business in the 1870s.[3]
